at our event for this book i asked the author how he could get the protagonist's voice so real and true, and he said he just imagined himself if he never had the breaks he did. and of course, we put in many ppl into the characters we write, but that comment really made me appreciate all the vulnerability and care in lashley's writing. i really loved this book and hope everyone gets a chance to read it!
