More than just writing the history of an era and one of the most important rap groups of all time this is a heartfelt exploration of identity, artistry, and finding connections. Abdurraqib's recollections of growing up w/ Tribe + rap music + culture as whole are nostalgic but clear-eyed, always keeping the story + its subjects grounded in the worlds they inhabit. Highly recommended, this is music writing at its best.
